It's no secret how much I love The Roots and in particular- Questlove.  I've been a fan from the beginning and still have all my old Roots CD's.  I posted this video a couple years ago, but still love it.  Now that all of our albums are out of storage I am trying to find a way to make them fit nicely into our house without looking like hoarders.  I've put tons of shelves in our basement and recently bought my second Ikea Kallax.  Now, I'm working on separating and cleaning the ones we intend to keep vs. the ones we will sell.  I have a feeling this is going to be an ongoing project that may take years to do.  Yes, we have that many.  It's kind of overwhelming but still fun at the same time.  I try to put on an album every day that I have never listened to.  I worked at 7th Heaven when I was in college and it was always so much fun having access to that much music.  

Back to work for me.  If you have any good storage hacks let me know in the comments below!  I love seeing how everyone stores their LP's.  Even if it's on cinder blocks and scrap wood!  Happy Monday my music lovers.

Music Monday- MC Breed

This is speaking to me today as I start a Whole 30 diet.  I am going to really try.  I mean I can do anything for 30 days right?  I was on crutches for 30 days and survived.  I can totally do this.  OK, I'm a little scared.  I love food. I really love food.  But the fact that the only thing I can fit into is stretchy spandex pants and tshirts means it time to do something.

Music Monday- Macklemore with a side of Fozy Shazam

  

I love Macklemore.  Love love love. The first time I heard Downtown on the radio I couldn't tell if the person singing was a man or a woman...it was just amazing and I had to find out who it was.  It's Eric Nally and he's in a band called Foxy Shazam.  I spent at least an hour watching his videos and interviews and became a little obsessed.  There seems to be a basketball reference in a lot of them which I love.  He reminds my inner 70s child of Freddie Mercury.

Music Monday-Girl Crush

Late 80s early 90s I listened to absolutely nothing but hip hop and rap.  That was it.  As I get older I'm listening to just about everything but rap.  You know..."they don't make rap music like they used to" has come across my mind several times, and then I feel old and can't believe what I'm saying.

I know the problem is me and here's why.  I'm out of the scene.  I don't work in a record store.  I have little kids.  My kids can't keep a secret.  Like that one time I let them listen to a Too Short song and I swore them to secrecy and then they ratted me out (but let it be noted they loved the beat and still ask me to play it...must find edited version).  I listen to the radio.  

I was going to post this a while back and completely forgot about it.  Right now it's getting a ton of radio play so I thought it was perfect to get me revved up me for my week.  It also reminds me to watch clueless with my daughter someday.  As if.

So without further ado- this is what I'll be rockin in pickup line.

Does anyone watch Vikings?  It's my new guilty pleasure.  I love the theme song from Fever Ray and have been listening to the Fever Ray station on my Pandora.  It's a little on the creepy side but I'm loving it.

Music Monday

This songs makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.  Could be the name of it too.  I'll take anything to feel warm.  We still have a foot of snow on the ground here in Kansas City.  Luckily we are supposed  to have a break from the freezing temps this week.

In record news, I've been going through stacks and stacks of albums this past week and have been busier than ever stocking up my booth for Holy Cow.  I have a pile of about 20 records on my listening list for this week alone.  Digging through crates has been so much fun.  There is something about a record that brings you back to a slower time.  Don't get me wrong I love my Ipod as much as the next guy.  But it sure is fun to pick up an album, look at the artwork, and put the needle on the record (no pun intended).

The quality of this video isn't great...but the albums....oh the albums, I cannot imagine having mine that organized.  I am a HUGE fan of Quest Love.  I've been listening to The Roots since college and love that they are now the house band for Jimmy Fallon.

If you aren't familiar with The Roots you can start here.  Crank it up.  This was the first album of theirs I bought...and by the looks of it I need to get caught up.  I am pretty out of the loop on new music and find myself saying that "rap isn't the same as it used to be" all the time.  I do believe that statement though, and feel like late 80s and 90s rap was the greatest of all time.  Yup.  I'm old.

Everyone is talking about Miley and her performance last night at the VMA's.  Did any of you watch it? All I have to say is that it would suck ducks to go through your wild phase in front of millions of people.   I did tons of embarrassing things that thankfully will never be relived over and over.

In case you didn't see Robin Thicke, Pharrell and T.I. on the BET awards click here.  It was amazing and surely made just about every woman in the audience want to leave their significant other at least for minute.  Needless to say last nights performance with Miley and her foam finger was a bit of a let down...at least for me, obviously not for her (and no, I don't blame her).

Music Monday: This ain't no jive turkey

I hadn't heard of Mayer Hawthorne until a couple days ago.  Someone younger and way cooler was talking about him at work.  I'm hooked.  The video is good too, click here to see it.   He's got such a great 60s vibe.  

I know this blog has been super quiet and boring lately.  It's tough to pack up a house that you have lived in for most of your adult life.  Add to that a couple kids and a husband and we've got a lot of stuff.  Nuff said.  I may go through some peaks and valleys over here but can't wait to start some new projects when we get settled.  I do Instagram quite a bit though so you can always follow me over there in the meantime.    

We closed on the new house on the 15th and have been over there the past two weekends in a row.  When we got in we started ripping up carpet right away and couldn't believe what we found underneath.  This is going to be Sammy's room.  The carpet was old and gross.  I can't believe these beauties were waiting for us. 

 

We are sanding everything right now (which I might already be regretting)!  The floors are in great shape all things considered but could use some love.  If we don't do it now, it will never happen.  We've got until the 15th of next month to be all moved in but time is moving fast.  We only have the weekends to work on it so even though it seems like a long time it's really only about 6 solid days.  I am  still giddy with excitement.  xoxo, Amy

Music Monday-The Black Keys/RZA

I'm a huge Black Keys fan.  I heard they were coming to KC and badly want to see them live.  

I stopped enjoying concerts years ago when I used to drive to Lawrence, KS and wait hours to see the The Wu-Tang Clan.  They were always late and extremely stoned but well worth the show.  

When I found this video I had to post it.  I mean.  The Black Keys and RZA from Wu-Tang?  I can remember driving around Hutchinson in my 1983 Mazda GLC (mine was red) blaring this.  Yes, I was...don't judge...or do...whatevs.  We called it the "Dragon Wagon".  Mostly because we would squeeze about 5 oversized individuals into it and ride around listening to 90s rap doing things we shouldn't have been doing.  There was rarely anyone under 6 feet in the car at any one time.  A couple people were over 6'8.  It was so small I could reach back and roll the opposite rear window down while driving.  Needless to say it was comical.  But hey, we were young, and stuck in a small town with nothing else to do but play basketball and find trouble.  Studying was kind of out of the question...and you can only play so much ball.  Someone hit it in the parking lot one day and knocked off my bumper.  It was there fault.  But, since I didn't want to be late to class, I picked up the bumper and threw it in the trunk.  Probably not the smartest move on my part but it beat running laps for being late.  I sold it when I moved back home for the summer for $50 and free tow.

Twenty years laters and one of my favorite bands of today teamed up with a fave rapper of mine from back in the day.  It put a smile on face...and maybe it will yours too.  It also reminds me of a Quentin Tarantino movie...which I also like.  Happy Monday to you!  Amy

Here's another one of the songs I couldn't get enough of back in the day.  20 years later I can still remember all the words.  Now I find myself saying things like "rap just isn't the same as it was back in the day".  I sound like my parents...but leave out the rap part.  Now I get into my mom's car and she's got an Outkast cd in...or misses my call because her radio is up too loud.  What the hell?
