Thrifty Thursdays

The kids and I went thrifting over the weekend.  We haven't been in a while so it was extra fun.  I picked up a few rolls of vintage wrapping paper and a couple old books.  Check out the illustrations inside, they are so beautiful.  I just couldn't pass them up.  You can barely see them, but I found a couple old protractors as well.  The kids love them.  My dad had tons of them when I was little, what I wouldn't give to have all of his old architectural instruments.  He got rid of them a long time ago.

These grandma pants are to die for.  The inseam is 36" and they are high waisted...and fit like a glove!
This sweater was missing a button, and I didn't realize until I got it home and was sewing on a button that the buttons are in the back!  That makes it even better.
Moo Moo's make me happy.  Especially during the summer.
 A bird batwing sweater
and an 80's dress.

And...the best part?  I got it all for $5.  Yup, $5.

Did you guys pick up anything good over the holiday weekend?  If you did feel free to leave a link in the comments so I can check them out.  I love to see other thrifters finds.

Happy thrifting,

Shake your money maker Monday

In my car now:  Whip It...the soundtrack.  A couple weeks ago I had to get the kids early from school for a dentist appointment.  As normal my daughter was still asleep from naptime.  I kissed her, picked her up and carried her to the car, strapped her in and about a mile later I look in the rearview mirror and there she is...my little princess bobbing her sleepy little head, tiredly trying to put her hands in the air, eyes glazed over staring straight ahead, still groggy...and very slowly shaking her hips, sleep still in her eyes...a tear in mine.  This is what we were listening to.  Tell me you don't want one of those boomboxes.

Hope your holiday weekend was full of good food and happy memories, remembering loved ones and loving your soldiers.

K is for Kindergarten

1. What was your favorite thing about kindergarten?  Handwriting, free choice: play ninjago with bugs.
2. What was your favorite special? computer because you learn a lot
3. What was your favorite lunch?  hot dogs and smokies
4. What was your favorite sport? baseball because I am really worn out.
5. What is your best memory for the school year? aftercare.  me: really?  him: yeah I love it.
6. What do you love about it?  We get to go outside 3 times and we get to have free choice.
7. What fun games did your learn?  zombies
8. What about recess? I like playing cody z.  What's that?  It's when you like run really fast and whoever beats the race wins and whoever gets the beyblades shoots them out.
9. What was your favorite project?  Building art.
10.  What kind of things did you learn about?  calendar, and counting numbers all the way to 163, doing library and going to the book fair and getting that big Star Wars book for about $20.
11. What was your favorite field trip?  When I went to the park and I had a picnic at that park, and when I went to Charlottes Web and when I went to the pumpkin patch.
12. What are you looking forward to next year? Listening and doing handwriting.
13. What are you excited about this summer?  Staying home every Friday.

Some of my fave moments from the year.

that's my boy soaking up the heat first thing in the morning.  He did this every morning during the winter months.

He caught the only "keeper".  Grandpa fileted it, and I fried it.  Of course their was only enough for him...but totally worth it.

We had a pretty big year.  Probably one of the busiest years of my adult life.  We did basketball, soccer, and baseball.  Ironically, basketball was your least favorite.  My only requirement: that you touch the ball during the game.  You made me incredibly proud.  I am amazed at how much you have improved at soccer.

My favorite moments
1. the soccer practice you got your drop kick down and scored a goal on the other team...from yourgoalie box.
2.  the soccer game I got to late and the pride on your face for doing so good.  You played the other kindergarten team so it was a pretty big deal.  You blocked so many goals that almost every parent made a comment to me after the game about how good you did.  (chest swelling)
3.  watching you draw for hours upon hours.
4.  when you learned how to tie your own shoes.
5.  watching you swing.
6.  when you realized the tooth fairy gave you your own dollar.  (roops)

The Kindergarten class of 2012.  I am amazed at the wonderful things 5 and 6 year olds can do.  Truly amazed.

You made mama proud.

I don't know about you guys but I am ready for the weekend.  I have been working WAY too much, had WAY too many after school activities and in need of a major break.  I want to paint sticks with my kids, sleep in, snuggle with my babies, wear no make up, and watch movies.

Happy Friday!

Friday Favorites-Hooptie Love

Don't get me wrong I love a good reliable car that starts every time and blows cold air in the summer and warm air in the winter, but nothing really compares to an old hooptie.  No lie, I could totally see myself driving this.  I saw it on the way home from the dentist and it struck a nerve.

It reminded me just how much I love old cars.

I have this one above in white...with specks of mold on the inside and rust on the exterior...and a sweet flat tire.  It will be going to a good home soon.  I will miss her, but I just don't have time to take her for walks, wash her, start her, or charge her battery.

My dad had one similar to this.  It had a sunroof, a CB radio, an 8 track player, and if he stepped on the gas smoke bellowed out of the exhaust.  We called it a smokescreen.  It was pure awesomeness.  Come to think of it my uncle had one in light blue.  It was THE car of my childhood.  It brings back memories of swimming in the summertime and sitting on those hot leather seats.  It reminds me of long road trips, grade school, and so much more.

My love for old things doesn't stop at clothes or husbands.  I love me an old hooptie too.  What cars remind you of your childhood?

Happy Friday night!

Amy

Happy Birthday Sucker

My brother's birthday was Friday.  Don't worry I already told him Happy Birthday in a very nice sisterly tone.  I've just been without an internet connection all weekend.
Wallpaper and linoleum = awesome.  Homemade Birthday cakes instead of store bought = best mom ever.  Do you see those salt and pepper shakers?  If only my mom would of kept them!

I thought my brother was the funniest person in the entire world (still do).  I hope my son grows up to be the kind of big brother to Sammy as my brother is to me.

Happy Birthday to the best big brother and uncle in the entire world!
