To change or not to change?

For a long time I have been toying with idea of changing the name of my vintage shop.  When we chose a name for the records (Wanderland Records).  I thought about changing the name of my vintage shop to Wanderland Vintage to go with it.  People who don't know me personally probably don't get the whole "Green Eggs and Hamm".  My maiden name is Hamm and throughout high school, college, and most of my adult life people have always referred to me by my last name...or some moniker of it.  A friend in college used to just call me Green Eggs...without the Hamm.

Now, I am trying to buckle down a bit and get more serious about the blog, the vintage, and the records.  What is your opinion? Should I stick with the Green Eggs and Hamm?  Or change it to Wanderland Vintage?  Do I just rename the shop?  Or the blog also?  I'm looking for the opinion of you guys to help me out!  Thanks a ton!  I hope this week is crazy short and Friday is here before we know it.

Thrifty finds

I should have cleaned this before I took a picture! A green recipe holder, and a couple craft books.
an old grammar school math book and a common prayer book from the early 1900's
I can't resist these old men hats with feathers on the side.  They are always so small though...my intentions were for my son...but he didn't like the idea.
last but not least these lovely melamine dishes!  Did you guys find any good stuff thrifting?

His point of view...on design

My beautiful cousin Shelley over at Crazy Wonderful did a blog post asking her wonderful husband's opinion of some her favorite rooms she's found and pinned.  The husbands take on design is quite a funny one.  I had to join in.

She was inpsired by Jessamie over at Bird and Branch Redesign.  I've had so much fun reading the other posts I had to try it.  Mostly because my husband never really says anything about what I do with the house.  The man helped me paint my kitchen pink after all.  He also needs help dressing himself occasionally.  Not in a bad way, but if we are going out he would prefer me to just pick out his clothes.  He just doesn't care.

When we first started dating I came home one day and he was outside grilling and he was wearing my pink terry cloth 70s short shorts with white trim and platform foam flip-flops with no shirt on, a poker in one hand, flipping sausages.  Bestill my heart.  In his defense he came over to do yard work, got filthy, took a shower and put on the first thing he found that somewhat fit.  To paint the complete picture, my husband is 6'5 and about 250.  He doesn't care what people think and as long as he is comfortable he is happy.

So here goes.  Jeff's take on design.
Oh hell no.

I don't know what to say to that.  Although I do like the couch.  And I like that "thingy" on the wall.

Is that an old tv?  Remember that tv we saw at the auction with the aquarium?  I wonder if that's it?       Reminds me of an old house...the table, the chairs.

Going on a Bear Hunt

I love taking walks with my kids.  What can be more fun than going on an adventure?  I have such good memories of exploring as a youth.  There is an abandoned school close to our house.  It's huge and in my opinion beautiful.  The paint has faded to beautiful pinks, greens, and blues and it's covered in ivy.   These walks aren't just refreshing for me, but them as well.  We come home tired and happy.

Proof that the best things in life are indeed free.

Friday Faves-Coachella

I have been wanting to go to Coachella since I heard about it years ago.  Unfortunately I know attending is not in my near future.  My niece went this year so I hooked her up with some great vintage dresses.  Can't wait to see her pictures.  She was in VIP so I know they will be good.  I want to go not just for the music...but for the fashion eye candy.  I am a people watcher so I would be in hippie heaven.

Don't hate.  If I had a body like Chanel Iman I would wear my studded leathers too.

It's Friday! I am need of a weekend.  We are going to the famous Stroud's restaurant tonight for dinner.  My husband bet a friend on the outcome of the Master's so we get a free dinner.  Wahoo (that's my daughters new favorite word).  Winner winner chicken dinner!  For reals.  If you ever come to KC...make it a point to go there.  Assuming you like things like fried chicken, steak, mashed potatoes and gravy and cinnamon rolls.  And if you like gizzards and livers...they have the best. Hands down.

DIY Feathered Headdress

I did this guest post over at Smmidge awhile back...and thought I would share it here since I can't get enough of headdresses!
Here is a super easy under an hour project.  I love me a quick craft.  I got the inspiration from Cloth Magazine but frankly didn't have the time or patience (right now) to do it.  I wanted instant gratification and this one required a lot of handsewing and a TON of feathers and trim!  I did put it in the archives because it's too great not too!

Here is the easy method!
 front
back

 The Supplies:
  • glue gun-2- sticks of glue or more
  • feathers (I used 3 different sizes)
  • scissors
  • trim (I chose sequins)-optional
  • felt- you can also use this instead of leather if you don't use as many feathers!
  • elastic for closure (I used stretchy lace)
  • scrap leather-about 8" long and 4" wide (wide enough to double over the feathers you are gluing)

lay out your leather and start gluing the smallest feathers first...starting in the middle and working your way out.

add your bigger feathers over the small ones.  This takes  alot of glue!

Once you have a sufficient amount of feathers add a LOT of hot glue and fold the leather over the feathers. *make sure and leave a little opening at the ends to add your elastic or tie.

I cut about 6 inches of stretchy lace for each side...so I could tie it in a bow.

Now, lay out your embellishments.  You really don't even have to do this step but these sequins were calling my name.  I didn't like the orange leather so cut a piece of felt with scalloped edges to cover it as well.  I just hot glued them down.

There are no rules! Play around with it and add your own touch.

Here is one I made for my son with nothing but felt, feathers, glue and elastic.

If you make your own...I want to see it!

Amy

Winner winner chicken dinner

Remember the giveaway I did for sneakpeeq?  Sorry it's taken me so long to post this...but we have a winner!

Congrats Rachel Land.  Your giftcard will be put in your Sneakpeeq account!

Life has gotten unbelievably crazy.  Between jobs, kids, sports, and remembering to put on deodarant, I have gotten behind on just about everything.  It's no big deal that my house is on the market and filthy right?  I am trying to show off the fact that my dining room table is the perfect spot to fold laundry...and that 13 pairs of shoes look nice in front of the tv.  It's ambiance.

Hope everyone is having a super week.  Will try to get back to the norm after this week.

Put the needle on the record

Almost 8 years ago my husband lost his best friend to cancer.  His name was Steve DeVore.  Steve was the ultimate thrifter, and borderline hoarder (a kindred spirit).  He was a great guy and had a little chihuahua named Pal.  Steve collected records...lots of records. He also collected dishes, pyrex, and of course little knick knacks.  We had a ton of fun "willy willy'in" (his term for thrifting).  We watched a lot of Young and the Restless together and did a ton of thrifting.   When he passed away he not only left us his beloved dishes but he also left us his record collection.  He knew we would be the only ones who would really appreciate them.  He always wanted to get into the business of selling them but chemotherapy does a number on ones strength, and he had already battled this cancer once before.  We are finally going to fulfill his lifelong dream and start selling them one by one...just like he always wanted...of course keeping our favorites as we go.

About a month ago my husband went out to our storage locker and grabbed 4 of these peach crates.  I can't believe that each one is full of nothing but The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin.  It's been a little overwhelming just thumbing through them...and the thought of more makes my head spin.  But I am excited to start getting some listed.

Here are some of my favorite covers and albums so far:
I love the picture albums.  It reminds me of my Strawberry Shortcake record when I was little.

I have always loved this record!

Leave it to Hendrix to have a cornucopia of naked ladies.

I have been working on Etsy banners and can't decide which one to use.  I was hoping you guys could help me choose which one.

Posting this makes me miss Steve even more right now, I can still hear him laugh.  He will always be my favorite thrifting buddy.  One of these days I will share his favorite dinner..."secret family recipe".   Let me know which banner you like!  I hope the Easter Bunny leaves you all donuts...and reese's peanut butter eggs.

Best Salad EVER

Lemon Quinoa Cilantro Chickpea Salad.  Just one of the reasons I love pinterest.  This salad is so good, I made it for the second weekend in a row.   When I say good, what I mean to say is "stop everything you are doing and go to the grocery store right this second".  I just want to be sure you understood me.

Click here for the recipe (scroll down to the bottom of the page).

Cucumber sandwiches.  Another reason I love pinterest.

So good, so healthy, and so easy.  I didn't realize until tonight, the original pin doesn't link to anything.  I just saw it and happened to have what I thought would be good.

This is what I used:

cucumber, roma tomatoes, spinach, and cream cheese.  Delish and fairly healthy.  Hummis would have been even better.

Summer is around the corner...I am trying to curb the donuts and chocolate milk.  My lady lumps need some work.

Happy Monday!
Amy
